I met Douriya & Yusuf in September at the National Wedding Show at Earls Court. Immediately I knew I wanted to photograph their wedding. I have photographed Indian weddings before but never in a mosque, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Despite my lack of experience Douriya & Yusuf said they really wanted me to be their photographer and helped me along the way to understand Islamic wedding ceremony and tradition (including a point by point list of what would happen!)
I was involved with 3 major parts of the celebrations, the Mehndi, the Nikah (the mosque wedding ceremony) and the Reception (the civil ceremony). I enjoyed every moment and was welcomed in to the celebrations by two wonderful families and amazing friends. Of course I cannot forget to mention the food. Curry has long been one of my favourite types of food but this was something else. It tasted exquisite and the portions were enormous!
The civil ceremony was held at the lovely Northbrook Park. Another wonderful day and again some totally incredible food! This brought an end to my amazing week with Douriya and Yusuf but I’ve had the best time editing your pictures. You look absolutely stunning. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and part of your celebrations. The hospitality and warmth of your families was exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed being there to capture your celebrations.
